CHILDREN’S LITERATURE AND INTERSECTIONALITY IN THE ZOOM OUT PROJECT
The Zoom Out project is coming to an end, and is ready to present its results across two days packed with events and encounters.
What to Expect
The two-day programme will open on 5 June with an online lecture by Ymke de Bruin (University of Utrecht), from 4:30 to 6:00 PM. The session will be available to follow via Zoom.
6 June will take place in a hybrid format: in person in Rome, at the Europa Experience venue in Piazza Venezia, and online via YouTube.
The day will open with institutional greetings from Claudia Pratelli, Councillor for Education of Rome City Council, followed by the lecture by Nicoz Balboa, starting at 10:45 AM.
The program will continue with the first round table, entitled “Cultural Transformation Strategies: An Intersectional Lens to Explore Discriminations through Children’s Literature” with Gerard Coll-Planas (Universitat de Vic – Universitat Central de Catalunya), Malek Bahri (Blocco Decoloniale), Deborah Soria (bookshop Ottimomassimo & Library IBBY Lampedusa) and Elena Fierli (Scosse) chaired by Barbara Leda Kenny.
After the lunch break, the afternoon session will open with the meeting ZOOM OUT EXPERIENCE: what happened in the schools during the project?, led by the partner organisations that carried it out across four European countries followed by ZOOM OUT OUTPUTS:presentation of the results of the project.
Then, at 4 pm, the second round table: “Inclusive educational and relational practices: children’s literature to build the future” with Aleksandra Niewiejska – (Fundacja Laboratorium Zmiany) Filip Skific (Petit Philosophy), Vincenza Basta (Il Pungiglione), Rahma Nur (teacher, writer and teachers’ trainer), Sarah Di Nella (partner at Tuba, translator, curator of the Bande de Femmes festival). The round table will be chaired by Marta Capesciotti (researcher and curator of the Bande de Femmes festival).
The conference will close with closing remarks from 5:30 to 6:00 PM.
About the Project
Zoom Out is a project financed by Erasmus+ that involves 10 partners from 4 different countries: Spain, Croatia, Italy, and Poland. It aims to foster critical thinking and aligned values by approaching European children’s literature from an intersectional perspective, aiming to develop citizenship, cultural awareness, and literacy skills among students and teachers.
Zoom Out engages school teachers, pre-service teachers, and students with educational resources that foster social and intercultural skills and critical thinking from an intersectional perspective, with the aim of raising awareness of inclusion and diversity.
